How to Remove a Coffee Stain from Your Carpet
Coffee stains can be difficult to get out of carpets, especially if the carpet is a light colour, but there are things that you can do to get rid of the stain. If you spill coffee on your carpet, the first thing to remember is not to panic. Coffee stains can be removed! The quicker you act, the easier it will be.
Firstly, if the spill has just happened, blot it up with paper towels. Don’t scrub or rub, just lay the paper towels on the carpet and let them soak up the coffee. Once you have done that, you should be left with just a small area of stain. Start by spraying a little soda water onto the stained area, then blotting it up with more paper towels. Each time you do this, the stain should become a little more faded, until it is finally completely gone. If that does not appear to be working, then you may need something a little stronger.
For carpets that are light colored and un-patterned, a solution of a few drops of biological washing powder and water is a good choice, but don’t use this on dark colored carpets, because the carpet may fade. Glycerine or white vinegar and baking powder can work for removing stains too.
Avoid using bleach or harsh cleaning chemicals, because these may damage the carpet. Repeated applications of a gentler cleaning solution, followed by patting the affected area dry, is a much more effective choice and one that will prolong the life of your carpet. Use lukewarm water, because soaking the stain in very hot water could actually set the stain into the carpet pile, making it even harder to remove! Note that you may want to shampoo the entire carpet after you have removed the stain, because otherwise you could end up with a patch that looks a different shade to the rest of the carpet.
